For their fifth fully animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures present The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. At home we have a very naughty little Shitzu called Winston so Fleur’s imagination after watching the film was running riot.

Comedy superstars LOUIS C.K. (TV’s Louie), ERIC STONESTREET (TV’s Modern Family) and KEVIN HART (Ride Along series) make their animated feature-film debuts as Max, Duke and Snowball in The Secret Life of Pets, which co-stars JENNY SLATE (Zootopia) as Gidget, ELLIE KEMPER (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Katie, LAKE BELL (TV’s Children’s Hospital) as Chloe, DANA CARVEY (Wayne’s World series) as Pops, HANNIBAL BURESS (Neighbors series) as Buddy, BOBBY MOYNIHAN (TV’s Saturday Night Live) as Mel, STEVE COOGAN (Minions) as Ozone and ALBERT BROOKS (Finding Nemo) as Tiberius.

The best bit about the film was how engaging the storyline was for a kids film. For one bustling Manhattan apartment building, the real day starts after the folks on two legs leave for work and school. That’s when the pets of every stripe, fur and feather begin their own nine-to-five routine: hanging out with each other, trading humiliating stories about their owners, auditioning adorable looks to get better snacks and watching Animal Planet like it is reality TV.

The building’s top dog, Max (C.K.), a quick-witted Terrier rescue who’s convinced he sits at the center of owner Katie’s (Kemper) universe, finds his pampered life turned upside down when she brings home Duke (Stonestreet), a sloppy, massive mess of a mongrel with zero interpersonal skills. When this reluctant canine duo finds themselves out on the mean streets of New York, they have to set aside their differences and unite against a fluffy, yet cunning, bunny named Snowball (Hart), who’s building an army of pets who’ve been abandoned by their owners and are out to turn the tables on humanity…all before dinnertime. I”m not going to spoil it by sharing anymore of the plot though!

The three of us all loved it. I mean as a busy mum of two kids who works early mornings, late nights and even weekends and can be up in the night with the baby, any chance for a nap I’m in. Usually when I head to the cinema with Fleur to watch a kids film both myself and the hubby have a cheeky 15-20 min nap. Not forgetting post baby number 2, I always need a million pee stops aswell. However the film was too good  for a nap and really had us all hooked that the three of us were on the edge of our seats in hysterics and I managed to hold out till the very end to slip to the loo.

What a fabulous trip to the cinema for the whole family, thanks so much to Universal and Premier Comms for the invite. Of course I need to end the post with an obligatory outfit of the day info, so for those of you who like to read my blog due to the looks I put together here’s the details:
