Semi Permanent Eyebrows by Cathy Brown

Nilam Patel

Many women have to deal with the annoying imperfect brow day in day out some are far too bushy others are too pale, others just don’t grow very well. Most of us spend hours and hours plucking the annoying little pests into shape and still never get it right like a professional can.

I can honestly say as a women with barely there brows they have been the burden of my day as I’m either plucking or making very dubious attempts at drawing them on for more definition. It’s also a well-known fact that a perfect brow can change the look of a face and give you more symmetry, which means a more striking look.

Before the days of filming in HD I just had regular brow dyeing, threading, waxing and plucking sessions but I never found anyone that could just get it right so avoided bothering and dealt with it myself. Oh dear not good when working on camera in TV.

Whilst filming Harley Street Beauty I heard of the ‘HD Brow craze’ and after watching some footage back was shocked to see how horrendous filming in HD can really be when it draws attention to all the imperfections, for me being my brows.

That was it I was determined to fix my brows once and for all and who better to do it than the lovely and talented Nilam Patel owner of the celeb favourite salon the Derma Spa in Milton Keynes and owner of HD BROWS the latest brow craze to take the celebrity world by storm.

With over 20 years experience in the beauty industry Nilam Patel is internationally renowned for creating beautiful eyebrows and is dubbed “The Eyebrow Queen”. Nilam is considered one of the best in her field. Nilam developed and launched the highly successful HD Brows brand. Interest from around the world has been huge and HD Brows has become the ultimate brow shaping treatment. Derma Spa houses the flagship HD Brows training academy that offers extensive training to students from all over the world. Her passion and vision for the brand is such that she hopes that HD Brows will change the face of eyebrow shaping and the way in which it is taught in beauty education.

So after a trip to the Derma Spa for my first HD Brows treatment my life would never be the same. That may sound like an exaggeration but we all know the pain those little pests cause us especially if we can never find someone that knows how to define them correctly for our skin or face shape…

I left the Derma Spa and was addicted. For the last 5months I have loyally had my HD Brows treatment every 2-3 weeks. So obviously now my obsession has grown and I’m thinking wow can I have my brows permanently like this? I love them.

Obviously my first course of action is to call Nilam. She agreed my brows are doing great but for someone who doesn’t have thick brows it would again really complement if I had semipermanent makeup. She recommended Kathy Brown a colleague and friend she’s been working with for over a decade i.e. someone she trusts implicitly with my brows bearing in mind I am on camera each week and filming in HD.

Permanent makeup is a cosmetic form of tattooing. Using computerised technology, pharmaceutical grade pigments and ‘tattooed’ into the upper dermis of the skin to define lips, eyes and brows.

Permanent cosmetics are the future of the beauty industry and are being used increasingly for cosmetic and ‘medical’ purposes to complement the work of surgeons, aesthetic doctors and ophthalmologists. Permanent cosmetics can be used to enhance your features for those who simply want to look better naturally, or to create a more made up look for those who don’t want to spend hours in front of the mirror. As the results of this treatment can be as subtle or dramatic as desired, permanent cosmetics are suitable for both women and men of all ages.

So I took the plunge after the lovely Cathy Brown invited me into the Derma Spa. With my numbing cream on and ready for the machine I felt totally at ease in the hands of such professionals.

Kathy Brown is a highly experienced technician with over 14 years of experience. She is an educator for nouveau contour and has taught alongside Nilam for the past 8 years.

She has a fantastic reputation in the industry and specialises in paramedical work. Kathy is extremely popular and recognized face by many medical practitioners for her areola work.

First of all the outline is penciled on so I had the chance to approve the design, which immediately I loved. Then the outline was tattooed on and the rest filled in all within about an hour. I felt relaxed; I didn’t feel pain just a soft scratchy sensation.

After the tattoo your semi permanent eyebrows are initially 50% darker and it takes roughly a week for the scab to occur and fall off to reveal your new lighter brows. So here’s my diary of the ensuing 7 days post tattooing and the end result:

Day 1:
Before my treatment Kathy used an anaestising cream on my brows so by the time she began they were perfectly numbed. First of all the technician will measure your brows and pencil the style on to check you are happy. Once I gave the girls the ‘A Ok’ Kathy got to work, I must be honest here I am an absolute wimp when it comes to needles I have a complete phobia so I was pretty anxious before the treatment and Jodie was there to hold my hand! But to my surprise I felt no pain whatsoever it was like a weird scratchy feeling but not painful and I felt so relaxed I nearly fell asleep. After the treatment Kathy gave me my instructions on how to look after them. Don’t get me wrong they felt a little tender afterwards but it’s to be expected when you’ve had a needle tattooing your face for an hour but nothing
unbearable in any way.

When I got home before bed I used cooled boiled water and cotton wool and softly dabbed them to calm any tenderness.

Day 2

I had to remember to keep applying the remedy balm, which help them heal. I’m always so busy that it’s easy to forget. It was also really sunny so I put factor 50 on to avoid any bad reactions in the sun.. Not too itchy or anything they’re just super dark at the moment which looks quite funny..

Day 3

I need to remember not to touch them keep forgetting and go to scratch them, nearly did by mistake feel like I’ve got to tape my fingers as they’re a little itchy.. Self control come on!!

Day 4

Still really bold and dark but looks like the right brow is starting to scab just slightly which looks odd; still have to control myself from touching them. Bring on day 7 I’m so impatient want to see what the end result is like.

Day 5

The right brow has half fallen off, really itchy today and I’m trying so hard not to touch them which makes me t0 want to even more but just need to hold out another day or 2 and my brows will be revealed.

Day 6

Both brows have virtually fallen off and they are looking stunning, still trying to control myself from picking  off the left little scabs but another day and I should be there.

Day 7

Oh my goodness I wake up and it looks like Jodie has applied my brow makeup in my sleep, they are stunning I can’t stop looking at them. The way Kathy designed them she has tattooed them over the higher area of my brow and it completely lifts my eyes. I look so awake, which is rare for me being a mum with a business and going 100mph every day.

I love love love them and can’t believe it took me till now to have them done. But they do say the best things come to those who wait and that is certainly true because if I had had them done when I was younger I may have gone to any random tattoist and you have to be incredibly careful whom you go to. So please ladies do your research because if you go to someone good it will be lifechanging.

I can’t say thank you enough to the extremely knowledgeable and skillful Cathy Brown with over a decade of experience and the wonderful team
at the Derma Spa in Milton Keynes, especially Nilam Patel the also highly respected and acclaimed owner..

Thanks ladies for my beautiful semi permanent eyebrows, now I want to try my eyes aswell hehe
