If you’ve never seen Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, you’re missing out. In the popular UK cooking show, four people (or couples) host a dinner party for the rest. The partygoers then rate them, and the best host wins a prize.

But you don’t have to get on TV to try it. You can pool some friends together and do it yourself! It’s a fantastic idea if you love entertaining guests at home. Whether you want to show off your cooking or just have fun with friends, here’s how to host your own dinner party competition.

Organise The Competition

Firstly, you’ll need to gather willing contestants. The show usually has four to five people per competition, but there’s no reason you can’t get more involved. Each will have to be willing to host a dinner party for the others, while the others rate it.

Pool a prize together. It doesn’t have to be a lot; you might just want to put in a tenner each. You might want to all chip in for event tickets, or have everyone buy drinks for the winner. Whatever you do, make it fun and raise the stakes a little.

You might want to have another friend to act as a scorekeeper for the event to keep things impartial. You’ll also have to set out a time for each party. You might want to have a different contestant host their dinner party each night or do it once a week.

Host Your Party

When it comes to hosting your party, it can really get exciting. You have competition now, so deliver the best party possible! Make sure your home is nice and clean. It’s tradition to give your guests a house tour and get them to feel well accommodated.

You’ll need to serve a starter, main course, and dessert. If you want to wow your guests, you should try something different. It doesn’t have to be a regular dinner party- you could also host a BBQ. Blogs like Fire Food Chef and hundreds of others can give you unique cooking ideas.

Remember that after the cooking you also have to give your guests some entertainment! You might want to play a game, do some karaoke or give a standup comedy performance. Whichever way, make sure the night is memorable, so you get a high score. Booze always helps.

Enjoy The Others

When you’re not hosting your own party, you’ll have even more fun attending the others! The best part about the whole experience is you’ll be getting multiple free meals out of it. You’ll also get to spend plenty of time with friends and enjoy their cooking and entertainment.

Make sure to be the perfect dinner party guest. Also, give them a fair rating at the end of the night. Be honest about how much you enjoyed yourself and how their cooking was. Don’t be tempted to rate them lower just so you can get ahead in the contest!

The Big Finale

At the end of the competition, it’s time to announce the winner. Have someone add up all the scores and announce where everyone placed, from last all the way up to the big winner.

Congratulate the winner and present them their prize. Don’t be too sore if you lose. Remember it’s all for fun and entertainment. Plus, if you all enjoyed yourselves, you can always do it again and ramp up the competition!
