How to Restyle your Best Friend

How to Restyle your Best Friend

If you’re a big fan of fashion, then you’re probably the friend everyone goes to when they want to go shopping. You know the latest trends and the looks to go for. And you know which looks your friends can get away with. So when your bestie is looking to freshen her style and build a whole new wardrobe, you are the one she trusts. Here’s what you need to do:

Body shape – Your friend has a particular body shape. It may be pear or apple, or any of the others, but it means certain cuts, lengths and styles will suit her better than others. If she’s a trouser lover, but her shape is better suited to skirts and dresses, now is the time to let her know that’s what you’ll be going for. If you own a couple of female mannequins, you can more easily demonstrate the style you think will suit her.

Colour – This year’s Pantone colour is Marsala, but if your friend is very fair, this colour might not do her any favours. Instead, check the season’s palette for the best tones to suit her. If she loves her lippy, check out what colour that is to find her something that may match well. Black always works well, as does silver, but whites can make fair skin tones look pasty and teeth look yellow.

Price – Your friend may have a budget in mind for this shopping trip. Make a note of the key items you need in her collection, and then assign a rough upper limit per item. This will give you an idea of which boutiques and outlets can be included, and which are beyond her wallet.

Underwear – Every good shopping trip requires a trying on session. Make sure your friend has the right undies for the job. If she wears control underwear for her high-fashion items, then she should be wearing it for your shopping trip. She may also want to put on her strapless bra for any off-the-shoulder items.

Time – You and your friend are going to need to devote several hours to this excursion if you are trying to create a new wardrobe. If every store you need is in the local mall, then that will be much quicker for you both. If time is short, consider which stores may be better to visit.

Layers – The key items in your Bestie’s new wardrobe should form part of a layering system. These are items that can easily be mixed and matched to form several different outfits. Think about how easy it is to remove, and how well the shape works with the other items. Cute sweaters and cardigans form the staples in this system. Certain shapes in dresses do not work so well. Empire lines can fail miserably when covered over with the wrong sweater.

Taking your friends shopping is always good fun. But you can easily be distracted when you see something you fancy for yourself! There’s nothing wrong with that, but try to give your friend as much attention as you can. Be honest, but don’t be rude, and be sincere in your opinions. Happy shopping.
