When people start exercising, they often stop within a few weeks because they do not see the results they want. It’s not enough to just start exercising and hope that this alone will improve your health; there are some healthy habits that you need to adopt before you start to see any real improvement.

To make a positive difference to your overall health, here are some habits that will supplement your current fitness regime.

Stay hydrated

It’s amazing how most of us still don’t drink enough water throughout the day, despite knowing all the benefits. Drinking at least two litres of water a day will keep your brain sharp, clear your skin, and help you lose more weight.

Eat breakfast

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, and therefore the most important time for your body to get all the nutrients it needs to stay active. Whether you decide to switch it to a delicious smoothie, or you still prefer to have something solid, make sure your breakfast is rich in protein, so you stay full until lunch.

Stop smoking

Life is hectic and overwhelming. Often, it can be difficult to shut off your brain and just take a little quiet time for yourself. Meditation encourages you to concentrate on your breathing and to stay present in the moment. Don’t worry about the things you still have to do. Don’t focus on the past or the future. Just sit quietly, breathing deeply, and feel the air moving in and out of your lungs. The practice of meditation will, in time, boost your overall happiness, decrease stress, ease your anxieties, and lower your blood pressure.

Make time for your hobbies

Hobbies aren’t just a way to pass the time; they are a way of relaxing and relieving stress. The joy you can get from indulging in a hobby could also help you live longer, or at least help you recover from illness more quickly.

Plan your day before bed

If you lie awake at night thinking about everything you have to do tomorrow, it could help you to write down a to-do list before you go to bed. Writing it down can get the thoughts out of your head, and you will feel like you’ve done something about your stress, rather than just let it interrupt your sleep.
