The fact that the summer is nearly over is not all bad because it means that the party season is just around the corner. Special celebrations like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year mean that the chances are you are going to need to stock up on party wear.

Most stores have already started to stock a range of going out tops, party dresses and accessories. If you can, go shopping early. That way you can snap up the most stylish items before they sell out.

Choose clothes that you can mix and match

In all likelihood, over the next few months, you are going to be invited to several special parties and also enjoy meals and nights out with friends. This means that you will need several different outfits. Therefore, the wisest approach is to buy items of clothing that you can easily mix and match. For example, a jacket that you know will look just as good whether you wear it over a dress or with a skirt or trousers.

Bear in mind the weather

It is important to think about how you are going to get to and from your party. Arriving shivering is never a good look, so do buy a coat that will protect you from the elements. A good approach is to choose a classic cut. Something like a trench coat or military style coat can work really well, especially if you can find one in an interesting color. The nice thing about this style of coat is you can potentially wear it to the office too.

It may also be worth looking at the idea of buying a stylish shawl or Pashmina. You can wear them under your coat as an alternative to a scarf and potentially continue to wear the Pashmina inside the party venue should you feel a little chilly. Naturally, it is not a look every woman likes, but it is worth experimenting a bit and trying a few on the next time you go shopping. If it turns out you do like them shawls can be surprisingly versatile and useful items of clothing. A compact umbrella is also a useful purchase.

The right footwear

Naturally, you want to look elegant and stylish, which means you have to choose the right shoes and boots. However, do not get too carried away. Again, bear in mind the weather. Satin shoes look fantastic, but not if you have had to stand in the rain in them. For the winter, patent leather is a far better option. By all means, buy the style of shoes that suit your outfit, but think about how easy it would be to walk across an icy pavement while wearing them.

Choosing the right colour palette

Key to looking good is knowing which colours suit you the best. Your skin tone, eye and hair colouring and the style you like to wear all have a bearing. When buying your party clothes it is important to choose items that allow you to mix and match. The more parties you attend, the more important this is.
