Feeling Like ‘Yourself’ Again After Having Kids

Feeling Like ‘Yourself’ Again After Having Kids

Having children is one of the best things you can do in life, but once you become a parent you definitely ‘lose’ a part of your identity. No longer are you just yourself anymore, but you’re also a parent, and you take on that role as your new identity. While this is great, it doesn’t mean you have to totally lose touch on who you once were. Maintaining your style and identity allows you to retain a part of yourself that’s entirely you and not a mother or wife. Here are some of the ways you can go back to feeling like yourself again when you have children.

Shape Up

Shaping up, shedding excess weight and getting fit will make you feel fantastic. Not only will you be more energised, but you’ll be more confident and able to wear whatever you want. It can be difficult to find the time or energy to exercise when you’re a busy parent, but just do what you can. Long walks and family bike rides are a good way to get everyone involved. You could do a workout DVD or follow along to a Youtube video in the morning or evening if you get a spare half hour. Doing something for yourself like this will make you feel much better.

Take Care Of Your Skin

Late nights and early mornings as a busy parent can impact your face and skin. Looking after yourself as best you can will help prevent premature ageing. Sticking to a skincare regime, even a very simple one can help. This could be a matter of applying moisturiser morning and evening, and then an eye cream at night. If your children are a bit older, and you’ve spent countless nights awake and exhausted over the years, it may well have taken it’s toll on your eyes. Luckily there are procedures that can help to improve how they look, and make you look more like ‘you’ again. You could learn more about eyelid lift surgery (blepharoplasty) procedures and find out if any of them would work for you. There is a range of procedures you can have done to improve the appearance of your skin in general without going under the knife. These include microdermabrasion, laser treatments and fillers. These can be useful as they can rewind the years, but without needing a lot of time to recover afterwards.

Make Time For Hobbies

Making a little time for yourself to indulge in the things you enjoy allows you to keep part of your identity. A group hobby such as a sport or class has the social aspect too which is great. But even if you can’t leave the house due to time or childcare issues, there’s plenty you can do. Crafts such as textiles, baking or papercraft. Writing such as creative writing or blogging. There are lots of things you can do from the comfort of your home which aren’t expensive, but allow you to spend a little time doing something you enjoy and are good at.

How do you keep your own identity, and stay feeling like yourself after having children?
