How do you feel when you walk into your home? Does it make you feel calm or does it make you feel stressed? You might walk in and feel overwhelmed by all of the things that you want to do to it, or you might feel relaxed as soon as you step through the door. If you don’t feel the latter, then it is time to make some changes. There are plenty of simple things that you can do to make your home feel much more relaxed, happy, and calm.

All rooms have an important role

It can be easy to see the rooms in your home as either important or unimportant. We might think that smaller rooms don’t need to be considered and only focus on the rooms that most people will see. But all rooms are important. One great way to create a home that is calm and relaxing is when all rooms have an inspiring space. When they are all cared for, left uncluttered, and styled, it is a happier and more inspiring place to be.

The art of feng-shui is a great concept to bring into your home if you are after a much more peaceful and relaxed space. Feng-shui is all about decluttering your home which can help you to have a calm and decluttered mind too. Ways to try feng shui at home are things like clearing away mess and clutter from underneath your bed. The concept is that if under the bed is cluttered, then it lead to a cluttered mind and can even disturb sleep. Bringing earth into the home is part of the concept, and it can be such a peaceful and calming addition too. So you could try adding a small rock or stone feature, as well as succulents and other plants.

Think about colour

Colour has such an impact on how we feel when we are in a room. There are colours that can make us feel more stressed and colours that can make us feel more relaxed. So the latter are certainly the colours that you want to go for in order to create a relaxing atmosphere in the home. Pastel colours have a calming and cooling nature, such as baby blue, pastel green and soft yellow. The colours that can be a bit too busy and not create a peaceful atmosphere are colours like red and orange.

Light and bright

The light in a room has an impact on how calm and peaceful a room is. When the room is all dark and gloomy, it can create more of an eerie atmosphere, rather than a calming one. So the best thing to do is to have large open windows with blinds or curtains that can be opened all the way. Letting in as much natural light as possible is key. If you can add plenty of mirrors in the home, then the light can reflect from them and make the home sparkle. So at least one in each room is a great idea.
