Camilla Elphick LFW Interview
We spoke to shoe designer Camilla Elphick about her eponymous labels AW16 collection.
Tell us about the new collection?
So AW16 the collection is called Babes in London. It’s a British inspired collection and we honed in on our silver boots, they have been very popular, and tend to be worn by cool city girls and so we’ve developed on that with some sixties inspired heels with beetles on, we’ve got beatnik boots, tassled boots and also we’ve got a lovely new print called ‘Country Cat’ which we printed onto leather this season. Each season it’s a different fabric so last time it was silk and before that it was velvet. We’ve also got some tartan and the Pez shoes.
Why specialise in shoes?
I’ve always felt that I like to accessorise existing clothes I have. Fashion changes so quickly that sometimes investing in a really great handbag or pair of shoes is the way to dress up an outfit. They can be timeless pieces that you treasure forever and don’t have to keep putting in the wash. That’s really why I wanted to make shoes.
One celebrity you’d like to see wearing your shoes?
Our go to girl is Alexa Chung. She’s worn some of our boots and shoes and she is really what the shoes are about. That you can still look cool running around town without having to wear killer heels.
