The V&A is finally giving Cristóbal Balenciaga the exhibition that he deserves.
The exhibition, announced in their 2017 calendar, will be the first in the UK to be dedicated to the pioneering Spanish designer. Entitled Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion it will feature film, fabric samples, sketches and photographs that examine his attention to craftsmanship and unique techniques that cemented his reputation as one of the 20th century finest couturiers. It will also feature around 100 garments and 20 hats made by the designer himself.
And it could not have come at a more opportune time as next year will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of his first fashion house and 80 years since his iconic Paris studio opened.
Following on from the monumental success of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition we think the V&A is set to get fashion hearts racing once again. Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion will take place from May 2017 to February 2018.
