Many first-time moms experience body confidence issues after giving birth. In a survey of nearly 7,000 mothers, 61% of brand-new mothers thought that they’d be back to their pre-pregnancy weight by their child’s first birthday. However, nearly 60% of moms of 1 to 2-year-olds said that they were still carrying a few pounds, with the last 10 pounds taking the longest to shed.

Having a baby is one of the most memorable moments in a woman’s life, but the whole process – from pregnancy to giving birth – can take a toll on your body. As a result, many mothers experience low self-esteem and feel unattractive after giving birth, and not being able to bounce back sooner can be frustrating for some. There’s also the fact that celebrities seem to regain their pre-pregnancy body in a matter of weeks, and this does not contribute to a new mom’s confidence level. However, there are ways to get your body confidence back after giving birth. Here are some tips to look good and feel good once more.

Do some post-natal exercises

Exercising speeds up the recovery process and helps to reduce post-natal depression. It also increases your energy level and releases endorphins, which can make you feel happier and more confident. Plan your workouts around your baby’s schedule. For instance, if your baby goes down for his or her nap, try doing some core conditioning exercises for 15 minutes. The key is to get moving whenever possible.

Put on a nice outfit

Caring for a baby can be exhausting, but you shouldn’t neglect your appearance, especially if you’re going out of the house. You can stay in your sweats all day in the house, but if you’ll be in public, wear an outfit that makes you feel good and look good. Leggings paired with a tunic is an outfit that’s both fashionable and forgiving. A flowy dress paired with a cardigan is a great option for dressy occasions. Making the effort to look good will boost your spirits and make you feel more confident when you’re out and about.

Consider some cosmetic enhancements

If it has been years since you’ve felt good about your body, then you might consider making a few changes through surgery. Whether you’re looking for a couple of cosmetic nips and tucks or are interested in Scottsdale Mommy Makeovers, these types of enhancements can transform your body through liposuction, a breast lift, or a tummy tuck, and it may be just the thing that you need to feel confident once more. Older mothers may find that surgery can bring their body back to its pre-pregnancy state as it can correct a sagging belly and abdomen.

Don’t underestimate the power of makeup

You may not have enough time to do your pre-pregnancy makeup routine now that you’re caring for a baby, but you should definitely carve out even 5 or 10 minutes of your time to do your hair and makeup. According to a study, makeup can provide a confidence boost, so smooth on some tinted moisturizer or BB cream, slick on some lipstick, and tame your mane before heading out.

Have some time for yourself

Find something that makes you happy. Even if it’s just a few minutes reading a chapter of a good book, or enjoying a cup of coffee at your favorite coffee shop, you should have a little “me time” every now and then. Don’t be afraid to ask for help in caring for the baby when you need it and spend a few minutes doing something for yourself that sparks happiness.

Lastly, keep in mind that your body changed over time to create and grow your baby so don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t pressure yourself to look perfect—nobody is. By doing any of these tips, you can regain your confidence and learn to love your body once again.
