If you have a particularly expensive piece of jewellery, such as an engagement ring from, that you’re planning to travel with, making sure that it is insured against damage, theft and loss is vital. Even if you have your jewellery piece insured at home, if you’re travelling abroad, be aware that the insurance policy may not cover any damage or other problems which could occur when you’re not in your home country. Because of this, it’s important to contact your insurance provider and let them know your plans so that they can advise you on what’s best to do. Your travel insurance policy may also cover your valuables, so it’s definitely worth enquiring there, too.

Whether you are driving, flying, or taking another form of transport to your destination, making sure that your jewellery piece or pieces are packed and stored correctly is important so that they maintain their condition and avoid sustaining any damage throughout the trip. This is particularly important if you are traveling via air; try to avoid keeping expensive jewelry items in any checked luggage, as doing so could put it at a higher risk of damage whilst in the airplane hold, not to mention the risk of your bag being lost. The best thing to do is store your jewellery on your person, such as in your coat pocket, or in your carry-on luggage so that it is with you at all times.

Avoiding Theft

As when traveling with any expensive item, it’s important to avoid the risk of having your jewellery stolen when you are abroad. Taking basic precautions, such as keeping the jewellery hidden and out of sight when you’re not wearing it, is imperative. If you are staying in a hotel, keeping the jewellery in a locked safe when not in use is a good idea and will give you peace of mind that your special pieces are safe when you’re out exploring. If the jewellery piece is something that you wear often, be vigilant when out, especially if you’re alone!

If you’re planning to take some expensive jewellery pieces, such as an engagement ring, on your travel adventures with you, it’s important that the jewellery makes it back home in one piece with you. Packing it correctly, making sure that it stays with you in transit and keeping it in a safe are all important for looking after your prized possession.
